My father introduced me to basketball. I always listened to his past teammates tell me how great he was when he played. My Dad and basketball went hand in hand, but initially I hated playing the game. No matter how often I practiced or attempted to get better I was stagnant. My father told me to focus on the basket and not the ball while shooting. No matter how much I told myself this while practicing, it didn’t make a big enough difference to make my jump shot or free throws any better. My dad worked with me as always, but this time it was different. He simply put together an apparatus, that allowed me to follow a line of sight to the basket. Soon, while focusing and following the line to the basket, my percentage went up expeditiously, shots that seemed so difficult, became so easy. After that summer and a few months of practicing with what became the shooting pro, I tried out for my 8th grade team and made the team! 9th and 10th grade JV basketball? I made the team! Varsity 11th and 12th grade? Made it!!! Before I fell in love with track and field, my first love was and always will be basketball, because I became great at shooting.
